08/25How Open-Source Apps Got Popular In The SMB Space
The SMB applications market is growing more than 10 percent a year and will reach $80.3 billion by 2012, according to market researcher IDC -- and open-source applications make up an increasingly more significant slice of that market. Open-source applications have won some acceptance within large corporations, although ERP applications from vendors like Oracle and SAP still predominate. But for midsize companies that need more than Excel and QuickBooks to run their businesses and are looking for alternatives to Microsoft Dynamics applications and SAP BusinessOne software, open-source applications are popular.

It may seem a bit backwards that companies would not select a CRM solution based on which technology was best in their eyes. However, that is exactly what happened -- until now, argued John Roberts, cofounder and chief executive officer of Cupertino, Calif.-based SugarCRM, a provider of commercial open-source applications and services, at his the second-annual CRM Acceleration event yesterday at the The Westin New York, in the heart of Times Square.
08/21SugarCRM Named Best Open Source Technology by CRM Magazine
SugarCRM offers a robust, Web-based human interaction management platform, well suited for companies of all sizes in any industry. SugarCRM's suite consists of: Sugar Community Edition, Sugar Professional and Sugar Enterprise. Sugar Community Edition is available under the GPL v3 at SugarForge www.sugarforge.org, SugarCRM's community development Web site. Both Sugar Professional and Sugar Enterprise can be deployed on-site, or delivered over the Web via the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. SugarCRM also allows businesses to design and build custom applications in support of business processes outside the realm of CRM, such as HR and PR functions.

08/12SugarCRM as an application, or as a development platform?
I was intrigued to see this post on CIO.com about using SugarCRM as a development platform. I know and use Sugar as an application. This was the first I've heard of someone using it as a development platform.
