SugarCRM has had a busy start to the year, boasting a number of changes and milestones in the first quarter alone.

Announced amid the company's annual customer and partner summit in San Francisco this week, SugarCRM has tapped William Hunt as its new chief product officer.

Hunt is touted as a Silicon Valley veteran following his experience at Novell, a roster of a dozen patents to his credit, and senior technical leadership roles at six software companies -- a few of which were bought up by the likes of Avaya and Oracle.

At SugarCRM, Hunt will be responsible for leading the Cupertino, Calif.-based company's product management, development, operations and the professional services organizations.

On the business side, SugarCRM reiterated that the first quarter marked the 18th consecutive quarter of growth with 785 new customers in tow. Those new clients included Reebok and Fordham University.

SugarCRM now serves roughly 7,200 companies encompassing more than 1.5 million people worldwide.
