Jonathan Schwartz: Freedom, Open Source, and Choice

Before his keynote today, I had never had the opportunity to meet Jonathan Schwartz in person. Following his company’s recent announcement to purchase MySQL for approximately $1 billion, and the resulting criticism the acquisition received from industry pundits, I didn’t know what to expect. Following his afternoon keynote at Day 1 of SugarCon 2008, I was impressed with Schwartz’s candid and no-nonsense lecture on open source and scales of economies, and convinced that MySQL and a big portion of open source’s future is in sound hands.
