Sugar 5.5 Beta General Discussion

Update May 26, 2009 - The Sugar 5.5 Beta is now available for download or online preview. Please see further down this thread for the latest details.

We are preparing to release the first Beta Preview of Sugar 5.5 within the next few weeks.

The Beta release will be available both for online review and to download and install.

Upgrade packages will also be available so that you will be able to test upgrading from previous versions of Sugar to Sugar 5.5 Beta. However, we do not plan to support upgrading from the Sugar 5.5 Beta to any future releases, whether a Release Candidate or Generally Available release.

The main features that will be available to preview within the Sugar 5.5 Beta are:

• Dynamic Teams [Pro & Ent editions only]
• Advanced Passwords [All editions]
• Wireless View Editor in Studio [Pro & Ent editions only]
• New Themes Framework [All editions]
• Enhanced Web Services [All editions]

Other features debuting in Sugar 5.5 Beta are:

• Module Administration for Users/Teams/Roles
  • Ability for specified users to manage Users, Teams and Roles without system administrator access [Pro & Ent editions only]
• Activities Reports
  • Ability to filter per Record or per User [All editions]
• Quotes Line Item Discounts
  • Ability to add discounts (amounts and percentages) for each product in quotes [Pro & Ent editions only]
• Module Builder - Many-to-One relationships [All editions]
• EXT JS replaced by YUI in Emails, Reports and Developer Tools

I think EXT JS could bring better user experience than YUI.

Well let me take a guess..

Since both are in use right now, it may add complications to development, meaning that developers need to know about two libraries.

It's nice to see some effort to streamline libraries!

SugarDev hit it on the head. Too many libraries doing the same things. We are streamlining our use of libraries.

Download the Sugar 5.5 Beta - Install Sugar 5.5 Beta, or upgrade a copy of your existing system to Sugar 5.5 Beta.

Note: Upgrade files from Sugar 5.5 Beta to any later release will not be provided. Therefore, we recommend that you upgrade a copy of your production Sugar system for testing purposes only. We plan on providing upgrade files from the upcoming Sugar 5.5 Release Candidate to the Sugar 5.5 GA release.
