Default Embedding Account Names in Campaign Emails

    Hi All,

We have just been experimenting with our first couple of campaigns in Sugar, mainly by selecting a bunch of contacts into a Target List.

However, we have found one strange limitation doing this. We can easily embed the contact's first/last name etc. in the email body, but we would also like to embed their account name, so that we could have something along the lines of:-

"Good Morning John, We are happe to announce a deal that you and Acme Industries Pty Ltd would be interested in..."

Is there any way to achieve this currently?

    Thanks,
    Devan

I'm missing the same functionality. I have a lot of targets I imported from csv files which had company name (account), contact name and email but there's no way to add the $account_name variable to the campaign email.

This should be an easy one to fix, can anyone help?

Btw I'm on Sugar OS 4.5.0c (currently evaluating).

    Thanks.

    Hey Devan,

If I understand the issue correctly, Sugar currently allows you to embed an account name for a contact/lead/target in the email template module. When you create an email template simply select variable Accounts and select field name from the drop down. The variable is $account_name.

    Thanks,
    Dee

I was also stumped by this for a while, when I edited an email template the only option in the "Insert Variable" ComboBox was "Contact/Lead/Prospect". I could not see the "Accounts" option so could not insert any of the account variables.

The problem seems to be related to the way I navigated to the template, the following method will not work:

Campaigns tab / Click on Campaign name / Edit button by template name / Edit button by template name

However, the following method displays the Accounts option in the ComboBox and allows me to insert the $Account_Name variable:

Emails tab / Email templates shortcut on left / Click on template name / Click edit button

Perhaps this behaviour is specific to my installation (Debian / MySQL 5.0.30 / PHP Version 4.3.10-18 / Sugar 4.5.0h) but thought I'd mention it because there seem to be several threads that mention problems inserting the account name into emails.

I am expereiencing a slightly different issue in that I can pick $account_name and insert it in to the email template.... but when I send test emails to my test contacts the email simply contains the word $account_name not the substituted account name ... ???

I am seeing something similar in my environment. I am not getting the data to show at all.
My test template looks like this:
    Code:
    Dear $contact_first_name

We recently had the opportunity to provide you with support for your Captaris product. Please take a minute and provide us with your feedback from your recent call to our Technical Support.

$contact_assigned_real_user_name was your contact. How was the support you received?

    and the results look like:
    Dear

We recently had the opportunity to provide you with support for your Captaris product. Please take a minute and provide us with your feedback from your recent call to our Technical Support.

was your contact. How was the support you received?
Not sure why the data is not being populated.

When you create an email template simply select variable Accounts and select field name from the drop down.
