    Default Email Template for Campaign

    Hello,
I have tried to no avail to send a complete email campaign. Having followed the How-to within this forum, I cannot seem to see the actual body of the email nor am I able to insert any of the 'Variable' options in the Email Template body section.

I have a check box 'Edit Plain Text', when I click on this and I ten type my message, highlight the Opt-out message and click on the Insert Variable: [Contact/Lead/Prospect] and then choose[Email Opt Out]: [$contact_email_opt_out]

But when I click 'Insert' nothing happens.

Having done my message in the Body, then I tried to send the Email - this was sent, but there was no text in the body, just the Subject and thats it....

    From the how-to

    Code:
    5. Define the email marketing message. This will be the message that the campaign targets will receive. A campaign can have multiple email marketing messages, with each message you can associate target lists. This allows for sub-grouping of targets in a campaign, and provide a different messaging for each sub-group.
Where is this 'Email marketing message' -- on the official user guide, there is a 'To create an email marketing record' page 77, is this the same thing?

Anyway, if someone can point out why I can't seem to see the body text of my Email Template it will be of great help.

    Cheers

It seems that on Firefox 1.5.0.8 on Mac OSX the HTML body is not displayed, it works on Safari, but the

Insert Variable: [Contact/Lead/Prospect] and then choose[Email Opt Out]: [$contact_email_opt_out] lists don't display on Safari.

    Any advise.

There are two different forms for Email templates. One is for normal Email templates and another one is for campaign email templates.

You get to the form for campaign email templates by clicking on your campaing (detail view), then edit (or create) the related Email Marketing entry (last subpanel on detail view). On the Email Marketing edit form you can click on "Edit" or "Create" next to the field "Email Template".

On this form there's another option below the "insert Variable" called "Insert Tracker URL". After you have created an Opt-Out tracker URL, you can select it and insert it into your email template.

Variables or Tracker URLs are inserted into the HTML body of the email - not the plain text field. I guess there is a textarea "Body" above the plain text checkbox where you can edit the HTML Email text. If not ...some users had problems displaying the rich-text editor. See here

BTW: What version do you use? Sugar, OS, Apache, PHP...

    Hope this helps.

Hi and thanks for the reply, now I can see the insert tracker bits... Byt the way, you create the Email Template in the Email module and then select it from within the Email Marketing, then I had to click edit to bring up this form. I am guessing this is a functionality so that you can have different Opt-outs and tracker links.

    My configuration is:

    Apache2
    SugarCRM 4.5.0f
    PHP 5.1.6-pl6-gentoo

On Firefox, I cannot see the HTML edit box.

One last point, when I send an email, both Thunderbird and Gmail think there is an image within this and asks wheter to allow the view of the image, but I have not added any images to the email template, so I am not sure what this is all about.

    Cheers

Actually you cannot have different Opt-outs. In Version 4.5.1 you'll be able to have multiple individual newsletters. See this thread

The image is added for tracking. When a user opens the email and downloads the image (from your SugarCRM Server), Sugar "knows" that this user has read the email - that's how the tracking works.

I see now about the image...

One last point, I added a Tracker URL to an Email Marketing, but everytime I link this in the Email template the URL that is sent is http:///

and doeas not include the URL added on the Tracker URL form.

    Any advise

we have found that the IP address for the WYSIWYG editor (that lets you edit the HTML body of the email) has an issue and we can only get it to pop up if we are at the office where the Sugar Server is located or logged into a VPN to be on the same network.

You may have a related issue if you can't see the editor.
