Default Some RSS feeds not being shown

I'm running a new installation of 2.5 and have a number RSS feeds selected. Some of the feeds (BBC, InfoWorld) "display feed not available", and have done so since I set them up (from the supplied selection) last week.

I can go to InfoWorld and see that their feeds are active, so wanted to check if anyone else has this problem, and if there is anything I can check to debug it.

    Thanks,

    Des Dougan

i've seen this happen when the refering RSS site is down or the feed is not available or malformed. I've added all of the BBC and Infoworld feeds on my end and I don't see any problems today. But it all depends on the reliability of the external sites.

What you might want to do is find the row in the feeds table that refers to that particular feed, copy the RSS url, and try it in your browser.

    Thanks for your reply.

I tried the feed in my browser, and was presented with the XML source. I then deleted it from my SugarCRM favourites and re-added it, with the same result "Feed not available". I then pasted it into the "New RSS News Feed" dialog and hit save, and now see the feed at the bottom of my list, just below "not available" entry.

The particular feed I'm testing with is:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline...ogy/rss091.xml

I'm running SuSE 9.1 as my desktop OS, and Firefox as the browser.

Following on from my last post, I have been going through the list of feeds to remove the failed ones from my favourites list. I have found what appears to be a bug, but don't see a bug-reporting forum, so I will post it here.

After I selected "Delete from favourites" (which worked OK), I selected the Next option to move to the next page of feeds; however, it would not change pages. I found that if I put the cursor into the RSS Search dialog and hit Enter, then Next again, it would change pages successfully. I tried this after having closed and re-opened my browser with the same results. I had previously used the search feature (and found the search is retained between sessions, which is interesting). When I cleared the search, I noticed that the list of feeds was cleared entirely, rather than the search being cleared and the complete feeds list being re-displayed.

    1. feed not available: I think that RSS is caching feeds that are not valid RSS and therefore display "feed not available". This bug has been filed and will be fixed. Try clearing your RSS cache by deleting all the files under $SUGAR_ROOT/cache/feeds/*.

    2. broken "next" link: Was the link highlighted when you tried to click? If you previously make a search, then the search was saved and you might be viewing only the subset of feeds without realizing it, and so there will be no "next" or "previous" to click.

    3. broken clear button: I noticed this too and I got this error when I clicked the link (my error_reporting is E_ALL). This bug has been filed and will be fixed:

Warning: main(modules/Feeds/undefined.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /cvsroot/sugarcrm/index.php on line 461

Warning: main(): Failed opening 'modules/Feeds/undefined.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /cvsroot/sugarcrm/index.php on line 46

..thanks again for reporting these problems.

    Thanks for your reply.

I cleared the cache directory, but saw the same result. I browsed the cache file for the problem feed, and saw:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
    <html><head>
    <title>302 Found</title>
    </head><body>
    <h1>Found</h1>
    <p>The document has moved <a href="https://login.idg.com/idg/IWLogin.do?erightsmessage=CZURutSuSUTPeKgiNF5hUQHU 0HHQk8g%2bb4OoCgUoQ%2frPeKgiNF5hUQHU0HHQk8g%2
    b%0aeaDLw6iLC7HiyxUoYTU94OqDCdJDZWFG88kasTeFO6cvLw ViaULXO0dKY%2fl%2b07Hi%0aV4GBbhMUzr1ansV8DFpqt2crG 6HGLpln">here</a>.</p>
    <hr>
    <address>Apache Server at www.infoworld.com Port 80</address>
    </body></html>

Now this seems to indicate a redirect on InfoWorld's site; however, if I paste the same URL (http://www.infoworld.com/rss/news.xml) into a browser window, it displays the feed OK. I tried pasting the URL into the "New RSS News Feed" dialog, and again saw "Feed not available" - even after I'd cleared the cache directory again. Viewing the cache file shows the same as I pasted above.

On the problem with "Next" - the search field was definitely clear. I tried it again a few minutes ago and see the same results, both with Firefox and Opera. Hitting Enter in the search field, then Next is the only way I can change the page.

    I just tried: http://www.infoworld.com/rss/news.xml
on our demo server and it looked fine. http://www.sugarcrm.com/sugarcrm

Can you verify that it is still not working?

    Hi Jacob,

I just tried it again, and still can't get it. I did try on your demo site and it works fine there.

I'm going out of town this morning until Saturday. If I get an opportunity to check while I'm gone, I'll keep up with the thread.

    Jacob,

Sorry for the delay in getting back - I've been away for a few days, then very busy...

I've installed a new instance of 2.5 on my test box (when I had 2.0.x before), and the feeds from InfoWorld show properly. I've deleted the cache again on my production box, and tried to add feeds both from the menu and by pasting the URL into the dialog. No matter which I try, the feeds do not display... Given I can get to them via Firefox, there must be a problem in my installation.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Des
