    Cool Changing Field Names

    Greetings All,

Is it possible to change the name of an existing field, at least on screen? We would for example like to change the 'SIC Code' to 'ACCPAC Code' to match our customer account code in ACCPAC. So far, I have seen that you can add your own custom fields, but nothing about changing an existing field name. I don''t really mind if the field name in the database remains the same.

    Cheers,

PS: We are absolutely gobsmacked at the features and functionality of V2.5 - Many congrats to the Sugar Development team on a superb product.

Under the Admin go to "Dropdown Editor" - you can change both.

I see how to edit and add values that appear in the drop-downs in the 'Drop-Down' editor but I do not see how to change a field name in this area. It doesn't seem to make sense that this is where this would be anyhow. Am I missing something? I'm sure this could be easily changed in the code - a language file I would guess - but it would be nice to be able to change on the front-end. Any way to do so?

you can do it directly at the language file under these folders "include\language" on your root sugarCRM folder.

hope that's what you were looking for

    Hi,

this approach defeats the great work that has been done with the WYSIWG Editor. It should be possible to change fields names on screen (either new or existing fields) with the WYSIWIG editor, not just for one language but for several different languages!

It would also be great, if the WYSIWIG Editor could be used to create new modules.

If this was possible this would make a great tool excellent!

To the guys at SugarCRM, what are the plans here?

    Cheers Malcolm

I totally agree with malcolmh here there are still many little details that make us have to change stuff on the files instead of directly from the website, Hope that gets worked up more on the next releases, pleaaase

Agreed. There are certainly loose ends that need to be cleaned up and are being cleaned up in 2.5.1 and 3.0.

Being able to edit all field labels in-line is a feature coming in 3.0.

    Hi Clint,

great news as this would make the product even greater! Will it also be possible to change the text fields for various languages?

I am a real newbie to this great product but tried to get around this problem by removing the existing field using the Field Layout module and then adding a new field in the same place But while this seemed to work I have been battling with the entry side of the forms. In particular I changed the Annual Revenue entry field to Rannual_revenue, which did not work so I then tried to rebuild the original field called $annual_revenue but this now also does not work. Now instead of seeing the number in the box I can only see the actual field I created ie "$annual_field". any suggestions
