The SugarCRM Development Team is closely monitoring your feedback and is making every effort to fold it into upcoming releases.

Platform Changes

Windows 2008
MS SQL Server 2008
Support for the following has been removed:
PHP 5.1.x

Requirements
Requirements for 5.5.0 are as follows:
Increase the value of the memory_limit parameter in the php.ini file as follows:
If you are running PHP 5.2.9 and a Sugar version prior to 5.2.0c, turn off PHP notices in php.ini before you upgrade to Sugar 5.5.0.
Before upgrading to 5.5.0, navigate to the php.ini file on your system and change the post_max_size and upload_max_filesize settings to more than 20MB. Restart Apache and then begin the upgrade process.
The process of upgrading can take up to an hour. If you are using the IIS Web server, you need to ensure that the CGI application does not time out. To do this, on IIS, set the CGI script timeout to more than 300 seconds, which is the default value.
If op-code caching is enabled in the PHP configuration file, you will need to disable it before upgrading your Sugar installation. You can enable it after the upgrade process is complete.
In order to better support multi-byte character storage with Microsoft SQL Server, you can configure Sugar to use FreeTDS driver. See “Installation Prerequisites and Guidelines” in the Sugar Enterprise Application Guide. The supporting files are in a zip file, sugarcrm-MB-mssql.zip at http://www.sugarforge.org/frs/?group_id=6.

New Features and Other Changes in 5.5.0
Sugar 5.5.0 contains the following new features, enhancements, and other changes:
Dynamic Teams
You can now assign a record to multiple teams to enhance collaboration on complex projects. For example, a record can be assigned to Sales as well as Support representatives.
Themes
The new Sugar IE6 theme is compatible with Internet Explorer 6.
Password Management
The Password Management feature enables system administrators to create and manage system-generated passwords and password rules for users.
Sugar Mobile Editor
For Sugar Mobile, you can enable or disable modules for mobile views. In Studio and Module Builder, you can customize the mobile view page layouts for List View, Detail View, Edit View, and Search.
Expanded Access for Developer Role
Developer privileges now include ability to manage Users, Teams, and Roles.
Portal API User
Portal User has been renamed as Portal API User.
PDFs for Quotes and Reports
Sugar now provides the option of using the TCPDF PHP class when creating reports and quotes in PDF format because it provides support for multi-byte languages. Using TCPDF is now the default setting. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you upgrade your existing custom PDF templates to TCPDF.
Emails
Targets
You can now add records from the List View of Accounts, Contacts, Leads, and Targets to an existing target list. To do this, select records in the List View, click the Add to Target List button, and select the target list from the pop-up window.
Quotes
The Quotes module now supports discounts on line items.
Sugar UI Libraries
The Ext JavaScript library has been replaced with the Yahoo! UI Library, version 2.6.0.
Upgrade Considerations
Adding Dynamic Teams to the product in 5.5 requires some database schema changes across all modules as part of the upgrade process. For larger databases, this operation can take some time to complete. We recommend taking the following measures to ensure a smooth upgrade process:
1.
2.
If your database contains more than 10000 records per table, use the Silent Upgrade method through the command line interface to conduct the upgrade instead of the Upgrade Wizard inside the application. Instructions on using the Silent Upgrade are detailed in the 5.5 Application Guide at http://docs.sugarcrm.com.
3.
4.
Navigate to the Repair page from the Administration Home page.
5.
Click Quick Repair and Rebuild, select All Modules from the drop-down list, and click Repair.
Known Limitations
The Microsoft SQL Server driver version 1.0, does not support UTF8. Therefore, use the FreeTDS Driver.
