Why do our partners choose to build a practice around SugarCRM's commercial products?
Besides offering the many features available in our commercial products that are not available in the Sugar Open Source project, here are some of the many important reasons partners choose to build their business around Sugar Professional and Sugar Enterprise:
- The SugarCRM Partner Program offers a wealth of sales, marketing, technical and educational benefits to actively support partners in building and growing a more profitable business.
- Your clients desire a CRM solution that is protected under a standard commercial software license, not an open source license (see question, "Why Sell Sugar Professional or Sugar Enterprise?")
- Partners receive early access to pre-release versions of Sugar Professional and Enterprise (community previews, beta releases and release candidates) before they are generally available.
- Pre-release training on topics such as installation, upgrades, new features and functionality, administration, and tips & tricks.
- Membership to the SugarCRM Professional and Partner Forums, a critical asset to partner productivity.
- Deal assistance from the SugarCRM Partner Alliances team.
- Any customizations to Commercial Open Source must be made available to the entire community free of charge. Many clients may view their customizations as a competitive advantage and would not want these made publicly available. This does not apply to the commercial license

Do the licenses for Sugar Professional and Sugar Enterprise allow me to make code level modifications for my clients? How is this different from the Sugar Open Source project?
Because SugarCRM ships the application source code, it's common for companies to be interested in making code level modifications that create more seamless integration with existing systems and business processes. However, the licensing differences between Sugar Professional and Sugar Open Source impact how these code level modifications are governed and protected. Companies must carefully consider the differences between these licenses and the implications to any code modifications.
Sugar Professional/Sugar Enterprise - Standard Commercial Software License The Sugar Professional commercial software license gives customers complete ownership and privacy protection over their customizations to their Sugar Professional environment.
Sugar Open Source - Sugar Public License Customers making modifications to the Sugar Open Source code have created derived works, and those works are required by the Sugar Public License to be made freely available to everyone. For those companies considering Sugar Open Source, closely review the Sugar Public License and FAQ available here: http://www.sugarforge.org/content/open-source/
